Pre- Harvest Plot Tours: 2015
It was great to get out and see the plots on the first Channel Pre-Harvest Tour in our area this year. We toured two dryland plots.
The first one is on the west side of Highway 81, one half mile south of the Hilltop Restaurant. 215-52 was the show stopper there! Channel’s new hybrid, 207-27, was also a winner and did very well in that plot. Both hybrids had great plant health and outstanding kernel depth.
The second plot is three miles north of the scale on the east side of Highway 15 in Laurel, NE and is very accessible. This plot had a population of 31K on one side and a population of 24K on the other side. The higher population side showed better plant health and higher yield potential. This plot was interesting because it contained three competitive brands and tested performance under more challenging growing conditions. Channel hybrids stood out amongst the competition in both appearance, plant health, and yield potential. 207-27 was the one to see in this plot.
Michelle’s favorite food grade hybrid 211-35 also looked great in both plots. It's consistent high performance over the past few years is great for us because it means that delicious cornbread will be made for yet another year in our house. If you want to make the wife happy and still not sacrifice yield, try a bag.
If you would like to see either of these plots, I would love to show them to you. Give me a call and we can go over and take a look. If there are several of you who want to go, we will call Jim and see if we can hear it straight from the agronomist in the field.
